EVOLVING COMMUNITY

ORGANIC GROWTH VS. RIGID PLANNING

Work on the evolving community has started in 2009 and is - by its very nature - a forever ongoing process. This is true for the underlying theoretical framework as well as its practical application.

The original project proposes an alternative design method to standard suburban development in North-America, but the design method as a whole is in fact applicable anywhere in the world.

The key to the method is an incremental evolution of any urban development, where the process is guided by a framework of design patterns. This in opposition to the contemporary (and rather arrogant) belief that something can be planned to perfection.

The evolving community is located in the Tetrault Ranchlands in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Development of a complete community is a very long-term organization, but in the meanwhile several smaller-scale projects have been realized following the same process, which can be found elsewhere on this site.

This project page is still largely under construction. For more information please watch the video we provided.
